It’s a big week. On Wednesday, Pitch Wars mentors will release their wish lists. The clock is ticking, but I believe I’m ready. Or at least I will be, by the end of the week.
It’s a pivotal week: I really want to have my materials set up prior to Friday, so as to focus all my attention on the all-important work of finding my mentors. All the while, I wait for my moment.
I have important work to do this week. So, without further ado, here’s what I’ll be working on:
Two weeks. As of Wednesday, I’ll have two weeks until the submission window opens for Pitch Wars 2019.
My goals for The Pioneers this week are simple: revise my query and synopsis, then select my mentors. On Wednesday I’ll begin the process of vetting mentors, a process likely made less tedious this year thanks to the leg work I’ve done already. Having perused the list of mentors, I’ve narrowed down the number of potential targets. However, I’ll need to see exactly what it is they want before I know whether or not they’ll be interested in my work.
Either way, this week will mark the effective end, at least for now, of work on The Pioneers. We’re in the endgame now.
Dawn of the Pioneers
As planned, I’ve begun my week of research for Phase 2 of Dawn of the Pioneers. While I’ve made great strides in developing new technology, I’m still faced with some major questions.
I know now exactly which characters will be making the trip from Denali to Acadia, and roughly how I’ll justify their absence. Now, I’m trying to decide on what will happen once they get there. I have two options, either of which would advance the plot the way I’d like. But I’ll have to think hard on this. I must admit to some small amount of trepidation approaching this portion of the story, simply because I wish I could bypass it. I really love where the story is headed, and like an anxious reader I wish I could skip ahead to the ending.
But that can wait. Time and patience.
Given the approach of Pitch Wars, I plan to devote at least some time this month to revising several of the short stories I’ve posted here over the past few years. These stories, once revised, will then be re-posted, so as to present my best work to any new readers (and prospective mentors) attracted by my participation in Pitch Wars. Beyond that, there will be little else. My week will focus almost entirely on my novels.
I have a long week ahead of me. But by the end of it I’ll have a much clearer picture of my path forward. Pitch Wars approaches, so keep reading, and dare to dream. – MK
